Jules is the living embodiment of all that is awesome about pirates. (September 2009)

  • The Peacock King Book 3 has nine parts in Google Docs.
    • Part 1 - 7,196
    • Part 2 - Trial - 20,192
    • Part 3 - On the Run - 13,077
    • Part 4 - The Advocate and the Law - 22,257
    • Part 5 - At Last, You. - 23,184
    • Part 6 - The Knot Draws Tighter - 11,138
    • Part 7 - Checkmate - 20,041
    • Part 8 - Turn the Wheel - 25,145
    • Part 9 - As You Were - 11,760
  • For a grand total of: 153,990 words.
  • The parts have names because they were going to be posted like Book 2's parts were, and Irk wanted to make them a bit easier to navigate around when we went looking for stuff. Only... they just went up as straight chapters anyway. (ACTUALLY, I figured it'd be chapter-style again, but I can't keep a Google Doc the size of a PK book without GD first slowing down/lagging like hell as I type, and then just up and telling me "no, it can't be that big". So I kept the parts as a practical measure, and then titled them so I could remember what happened in each. - Irk)(That's not how you explained it to me! h0r! This is what I get for going along with your nefarious schemes without question. - Char)(I'd just come back from L.A.! You're lucky I didn't just speak Tool lyrics all day! - Irk)
  • Chapter Title Shenanigans:
    • Chapter 4 - Clown Devil Boy = I Want My Sh*t - Insane Clown Posse | We've had this song in the soundtrack for Cade for, like, forever. Somewhere in Book 1, I joked to Irk that if someone would just freakin' hand Cade a can of Faygo and wrote him a girlfriend named Bridget, she'd have a lot less writing to do.
    • Chapter 10 - Disclosure in D Minor = Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BVW 565 - J.S. Bach | Toccata and Fugue in D minor has long been associated with 'Sy.
    • Chapter 19 - Hunter of the Shadows = The Thing That Should Not Be - Metallica | The title refers to Julia, but the song itself is a tounge-in-cheek reference to Eudora. (Side note: I have never forgiven Metallica for their evil shenanigans, but even I can't hate the fact that they wrote a song about freakin' Cthulu!)
    • Chapter 20 - Anything You Can Do = Anything You Can Do - Irving Berlin (for Annie Get Your Gun)
    • Chapter 29 - In Which There Are Spiders = See Book 1 Chapter 29. ^_^
    • Chapter 30 - Relics - Relics - Pink Floyd | Named for an ENTIRE ALBUM how awesome is that.
    • Chapter 31 - Happiness Is A Warm Throat = A play on "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" by Tori Amos. Yes, I know it's a Beatles song, but I like her cover and it's the one on the soundtrack SO THERE.
    • Chapter 32 - Advancing to the Rear = "Retreat, hell! We're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction." - General Oliver P. Smith
    • Chapter 33 - Step In Time = Step In Time from Mary Poppins | Never need a reason, never need a rhyme!
    • Chapter 34 - Shifty Henry = Jailhouse Rock - Elvis Presley
    • Chapter 36 - Free Bird = Freebird - Lynard Skynard | Do you know how long we waited to pull this one? XD
    • Chapter 39 - The Sea = The Sea - Morcheeba | I've associated this song with Elete from the start.
    • Chapter 41 - Undertow = Undertow - Tool
    • Chapter 42 - Unfortunate Sons = Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival
    • Chapter 49 - Piercing the Darkness - This is the title of Peretti's sequel to "This Present Darkness". I couldn't use one and not the other!
    • Chapter 50 - Gang Agley = From Robert Burns's To a Mouse, which actually reads, "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft agley." Less cool people than us would recognise it from Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
    • Chapter 53 - The Red and the Black = The Red and the Black - Blue Oyster Cult
    • Chapter 55 - Beyond the Sea = Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin
    • Chapter 57 - Every You, Every Me = Every You, Every Me - Placebo
    • Chapter 58 - Sunrise, Sunset = Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof More for the sentiment than the literal meaning in the lyrics. ^_^;; Especially the lines, "One season following another / laden with happiness and tears".
    • I find myself thinking, "Damn, Julia is such a badass. I'm sure she has a soft spot somewhere!" No. No she doesn't. Julia really just is that tough and unapproachable. She had a rough upbringing, but most of it really is just her personality.
    • Poor Elesse didn't get nearly enough screentime. Ales kicks ass, and someday I hope to read about his adventures on the high seas with Jules.
    • My secret: I was sadder about Xen's death than Elete's. Elete wanted to die and spent THREE BOOKS doing it. Xen had potential!
    • I did cry when I read Elete's final passage, though. I'm a sucker for twue wub.
    • Is Ales/Elete porn incest or extreme masturbation?
    • This series is really about Jules, in case you couldn't tell.
    • The first time I read the scene where Stevane flips out on Xen, I got the fiddle solo from "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" stuck in my head.
    • I love Calyx. I've waited for him to show up from the beginning (I helped plot his existance). It's hard to wait for characters to show up. ;_;
    • And even harder not to talk about ones still to come. ;___;
    • Arms are meeeean. Especially ones that are just waking. There's a reason for it, though, and it's all Diyn's fault. He started it.
    • I remember saying around Chapter 36 that Irk was almost done, and that there were only a few chapters left. I have learned since then that I am really bad at estimating these sorts of things.
    • Going by how much calmer Katherine is after being reborn, I'm surprised people don't just off her more often.
    • Poor, poor Mitheoni, stranded on this continent of savages. All things considered, he's holding up rather well.
    • Jerithea is proof that the Advocate being creepy isn't just a Katherine thing. XD I don't know why they're creepers. They just turned out that way!
    • I want more Kevrin. Thankfully, I am aware that I will get more Kevrin. heh heh heh.
    • The scene where Jules discovers Ales passes out at the word "spider" is my total and utter favorite in the entire series so far.
    • Speaking of, now we call them "spi--" around here. It's like saying "Candlejack", only within the same wo
